School boards elect officers
Spokane Valley school boards were reorganized at their meetings earlier this week.
State law requires that at the first regular school board meeting in December, during nonelection years, board members will elect a president and vice president from among its members to serve one-year terms.
On Monday the Central Valley School Board unanimously elected Debra Long as the new board president and Tom Dingus as vice president. Anne Long will serve as the legislative representative with Lynn Trantow, the recent past president, and Cindy McMullen serving as directors.
The East Valley School Board on Tuesday appointed June Sine as its chair/president and Kerri Lunstroth as vice chair/president. Superintendent Christine Burgess will serve as board secretary. Roger Trainor will continue as legislative representative, with Jerry Shaw and Michael King as members.
Bob Wentworth was elected president by the West Valley School Board on Wednesday, and Debbie Hjortedal as vice president. Robert Dompier will continue to serve as legislative representative, and immediate past president Pam McLeod and James Williams will serve as directors.

Worst presents ever
Not so ideal gifts
For most folks, there’s at least one bright-pink bunny suit for every Red Ryder BB gun under the tree.
Whether it’s a bevy of beer mugs shaped like naked women from your uncle or those matching cyan sweaters for you and your dog, the Valley Voice is looking for the worst presents ever.
Have you received a gift so funny or odd that it has been preserved for posterity in your family lore?
Send an e-mail to peterb@spokesman.com or call 927-2165. We’ll compile the most amusing answers for an upcoming story in the Valley Voice.
