Lobos capture ninth straight win
Julie Briody scored 24 points and 23rd-ranked New Mexico converted 27 of 30 free throws Thursday night in a 62-51 victory over Northern Arizona in Albuquerque, N.M.
The victory was the ninth straight for the Lobos (10-2), who are undefeated at home at 7-0. The loss snapped a two-game win streak for the Lumberjacks (7-5).
Dionne Marsh added 12 points for the Lobos, while Riverside grad Angela Hartill scored 10 off the bench.
(1) Maryland 110, Loyola (Md.) 55: At Baltimore, Marissa Coleman scored 21 points, Crystal Langhorne added 18 on 9-for-9 shooting, and the Terrapins (13-0) routed the Greyhounds (4-6).
(4) Duke 72, (22) Pittsburgh 51: At Cancun, Mexico, Lindsey Harding scored 22 points to lead the Blue Devils (12-0) past the Panthers (12-1) in the final game of the Caribbean Classic Tournament.
(6) Connecticut 93, Colorado St. 58: At Storrs, Conn., Renee Montgomery and Mel Thomas each had 19 points and the Huskies (8-0) thumped the Rams (6-7). All five UConn starters scored in double figures, four of them by halftime.
(11) Georgia 72, Richmond 41: At Richmond, Va., Cori Chambers single-handedly outscored Richmond in the first half to lead the Lady Bulldogs (11-1) past the Spiders (4-8).
(12) Vanderbilt 89, Indiana St. 75: At Nashville, Tenn., Carla Thomas scored 22 points to lead the Commodores (11-1) to a win over the Sycamores (7-4) in the championship game of the Vanderbilt Holiday Tournament.
(13) Purdue 80, Boise State 64: At Las Vegas, Katie Gearlds scored a career-high 33 points and the Boilermakers (11-2) defeated the Broncos in the Duel in the Desert championship game. Jessica Thompson had 15 points for Boise State (8-4) and Nadia Begay added 13 points.
(16) Louisville 77, Florida 60: At Gainesville, Fla., Angel McCoughtry had 27 points and 14 rebounds, Jazz Covington added 23 points and the Cardinals (13-0) remained unbeaten with a victory against the Gators (5-7).
TCU 74, (17) DePaul 73: At Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, Ashley Davis scored 23 points, Adrienne Ross made two free throws in the final seconds and the Horned Frogs (8-4) beat the Blue Demons in the San Juan Shootout, ending a 10-game win streak for the Blue Demons (10-2).
(21) Marquette 89, Manhattan 38: At Milwaukee, Danielle Kamm had a career-high 26 points, including six 3-pointers, as the Golden Eagles (11-1) rolled to a win over the Jaspers (4-8).
