Hot shooting by CCS dooms Seattle CC
Kyle Turpin scored 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Community Colleges of Spokane topped Seattle CC 90-77 Thursday at the Bigfoot Classic men’s basketball tournament at Spokane Community College.
Ben Mitchell added 16 points, five rebounds and four assists for the Sasquatch, who shot 53.4 percent from the field.
CCS (7-7) will play today at 8 p.m. against Highline, which beat Walla Walla 87-79.
Boys basketball
Nate Bligh scored 27 points, including five 3-pointers, but it wasn’t enough as Bismarck (N.D.) topped the Coeur d’Alene Vikings 79-72 at the Energy Classic Tournament in Gillette, Wyo.
Luke Martinez and Jordan Willhelm scored 21 points apiece for Bismarck and Ben Peterson added 20.
Coeur d’Alene (5-2) will play the loser between Seaholm and Campbell today at 11.
“David Ramacus scored a team-high 15 points, leading Medical Lake to a 63-56 win over Lebanon (Ore.) at the Summit High tournament in Bend, Ore. Justin Tschabold scored 10 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and Gardner Torrence added 11 points for the Cardinals (3-2), who advance to play the winner between Summit and Lakeridge today at 10:15.
“Andrew Dresback nailed a 3-pointer with 5 seconds left, giving Freeman a 69-68 double-overtime win over Tonasket in the first round of the Freeman tournament. Jake Heinen added 14 points and Marc Soelberg chipped in eight for Freeman (5-3) … Also at the tournament, Liberty’s Aaron Weis made a lay-in late in the fourth quarter to give the Lancers a 69-67 win over Bonners Ferry (7-3). Weis finished with 20 points for Liberty (8-0) to go along with Andrew Canning’s game-high 24. The Lancers outscored the Badgers 45-33 in the second half to erase a 10-point halftime deficit. Liberty will play Freeman for the championship at 7:30 tonight. Bonners Ferry plays Tonasket at 4.

Girls basketball
Katie Baker scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading Lake City to a 45-39 comeback win over Skyview at the Enumclaw (Wash.) tournament. The Timberwolves outscored Skyview 15-4 in the fourth quarter to erase a seven-point halftime deficit. Lake City (9-2) will play Enumclaw today for the championship.
“Cami Bullock scored 21 points and Shawn Hennessey added 15 as Liberty topped Bonners Ferry in the opening round of the Freeman tournament. Camille Robertson scored 15 points to lead Bonners Ferry (6-5). Liberty (8-0) will play Freeman (7-2) today at 6 p.m.
“Alyssa Koller scored 15 points and grabbed 18 rebounds as LaCrosse-Washtucna (6-2) beat Lind-Ritzville 47-43 in a non-league game in Ritzville. Laura Cain scored 16 points to lead the Broncos (5-4).
