Pac-10 roundup: Ducks remain unbeaten
One streak ended Saturday for No. 20 Oregon while another keeps rolling along.
Bryce Taylor had 22 points and nine rebounds, and the Ducks remained unbeaten with a 76-73 victory over Oregon State in the teams’ Pac-10 opener at Corvallis, Ore.
Maarty Leunen added 14 points and seven rebounds for the Ducks (13-0, 1-0), who are off to their best start in 69 years and remain one of just three undefeated teams in the nation. The others are No. 1 UCLA and No. 25 Clemson.
Aaron Brooks scored 13 points and Chamberlain Oguchi added 12 for Oregon, which won in Corvallis for the first time in four seasons.
Marcel Jones had 16 points for the Beavers (8-6, 1-0).
(7) Arizona 89, Stanford 75: At Tucson, Ariz., the Wildcats’ win over the Cardinal was their 11th in a row, their longest streak since 2001.
Eight of the victories have been by double figures.
Marcus Williams led the Wildcats (11-1, 2-0) with 23 points.
Arizona blew a 13-point, first-half lead and fell behind by five points midway through the second half before rallying to hold off the Cardinal (8-3, 1-1).
California 66, Arizona State 62 (OT): At Tempe, Ariz., Ayinde Ubaka scored eight of his 14 points in overtime, including two 3-pointers, and the Golden Bears (9-5, 1-1) held on to defeat the Sun Devils (6-7, 0-2).
Cal led most of the game but Christian Polk made an off-balance 3-pointer with 3.9 seconds left, tied it at 55 and forced the overtime.
