Streaking Bruins beat Canadiens
Glen Murray and Patrice Bergeron scored power-play goals less than 2 minutes apart and the Bruins won again behind new starting goalie Tim Thomas, beating the Montreal Canadiens 3-1 on Thursday night in Boston.
The Bruins are 7-1-2 in the last 10 games since Thomas became the starter. Boston is better than .500 for the first time since Nov 12.
Montreal has lost six of its last eight games and has allowed 33 goals in that stretch.
Predators 4, Avalanche 3 (OT): At Nashville, Tenn., Steve Sullivan scored on a breakaway 2:09 into overtime as the Predators snapped a three-game skid.
Scott Walker scored two goals, and Mike Sillinger scored his first goal since being traded to Nashville from St. Louis on Sunday.
Sabres 4, Flyers 2: At Buffalo, N.Y., Ryan Miller made 21 saves to win his fourth straight game, and four different players scored for the Sabres.
Taylor Pyatt, Brian Campbell, Jochen Hecht, and Jason Pominville scored for the Sabres, who have won four in a row.
Blue Jackets 2, Oilers 1 (SO): At Edmonton, Alberta, Jason Chimera scored in the eighth round of a shootout to give Columbus a franchise-record fifth straight win.
Senators 7, Penguins 2: At Pittsburgh, Daniel Alfredsson scored twice, including one of Ottawa’s team-record-tying three short-handed goals.
The Penguins fell to 1-13-1 in their past 15 games.
Coyotes 2, Kings 1 (SO): At Glendale, Ariz., Steven Reinprecht, playing his first game for Phoenix, scored the only goal in the shootout to give the Coyotes a victory.
Wild 3, Sharks 2 (SO): At San Jose, Calif., Brian Rolston scored the only goal of the shootout to give Minnesota a win. Marian Gaborik scored on a penalty shot late in regulation to tie it.
Rangers 5, Islanders 2: At Uniondale, N.Y., Martin Straka beat Rick DiPietro on a penalty shot and Kevin Weekes made 23 saves for his first victory in nearly eight weeks.
Blues 6, Blackhawks 5 (SO): At St. Louis, rookie Lee Stempniak scored two goals and got the winner in a shootout for the second time this week as the Blues won consecutive games for the second time this season.
