University routs Ferris
Turnabout was fair play when the University Titans girls basketball team routed Ferris 72-44 in a Greater Spokane League game Thursday night.
Led by Kara Crisp, the Titans (14-3, 9-1) hit 12 3-point baskets at Ferris, nine in the first half, when they built a 40-19 lead. Crisp had six and Angie Bjorklund had three as the pair combined for 38 points.
The Saxons (8-9, 5-5) had made seven 3-point shots when they won a non-league game at University 39-36.
Lewis and Clark 74, Central Valley 36: The host Tigers (16-1, 9-1) pulled away from the Bears (10-7, 6-4) with a 26-point second quarter. Heather Bowman, Katelan Redmon and Lyndi Seidensticker combined for 50 points.
Mead 42, Cheney 36: Kelli Valentine’s jumper with 2 minutes remaining sealed victory for the visiting Panthers (13-4, 8-2). Kami Clark led Mead with 14 points. Katie Camp had 13 for the Blackhawks (6-11, 2-8).
West Valley 40, Rogers 39: Lacey Nordby hit a 15-foot shot with less than 20 seconds remaining and the Pirates (2-15, 0-10) now have a GSL-record 66 consecutive losses. Rikeya Crossley had a game-high 20 points for Rogers. Krystal McCarthy led the host Eagles (3-14, 2-8) with 16.
Gonzaga Prep 72, Mt. Spokane 49: The visiting Bullpups (15-2, 9-1) were led by Corrina O’Brien and Sarah Jennings, who combined for 33 points against the Wildcats (8-9, 5-5).
Clarkston 54, East Valley 48: The Bantams (10-7, 6-4) secured the top 3A district seed by rallying in the second half at the Knights (7-10, 3-7). Kayla McCann and Misty Atkinson, who had eight points in the third quarter, scored 16 apiece for Clarkston.
Boys
Ferris 68, University 58: Sophomore Shawn Stockton shared scoring honors with Jace Mattinson, scoring a career-high 18 points. The Saxons (17-1, 9-1) withstood 11 Titans (5-13, 2-8) 3-pointers by making 13 of 15 fourth-quarter free throws.
Gonzaga Prep 69, Mt. Spokane 47: The Bullpups (14-3, 9-1) opened ground on the host Wildcats (11-6, 6-4). G-Prep freshman Travis Long came off the bench to score seven of his nine points in the fourth quarter.
Central Valley 47, Lewis and Clark 36: Luke Clift scored 10 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter to break a tie after three quarters between the Bears (13-4, 7-3) and Tigers (3-14, 2-8).
Mead 55, Cheney 45: Brendan Ingebritsen scored half of the Panthers’ (7-10, 5-5) 30 points in the difference-making first half. Turnovers (24) hurt the host Blackhawks (4-13, 2-8).
East Valley 67, Clarkston 57: The Knights (4-13, 1-9) got their first GSL victory while leaving the visiting Bantams (1-16, 0-10) winless. Despite being double-teamed, EV’s Dylan Sattin finished with 20 points. Josh Peck had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Knights.
West Valley 81, Rogers 54: Tyler Hobbs totaled 32 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and five steals for the Eagles (14-3, 8-2). E.J. Richardson added 22 points and 14 rebounds against the visiting Pirates (7-10, 3-6).
