Look for Souper Bowl this Sunday
Every year since 1990 an ever increasing amount of money has been donated to the poor on Super Bowl Sunday. Youth at hundreds of churches, including several in the Valley, will be participating in the annual Souper Bowl of Caring again this year.
The youth collect $1 (or more) from church members as they leave the church on Sunday. The total amount collected is reported to the Souper Bowl organization in South Carolina, but all the money is donated to a local charity chosen by each church. Last year more than $4 million was raised, bringing the total amount raised over the last 15 years to just over $28 million.
Participating churches this year include: Spokane Valley United Methodist Church, 115 N. Raymond Road, 9 a.m. service; Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 E. Buckeye Ave., 8:30 and 10:45 a.m. services; and Peace Lutheran Church, 4124 N. Harvard Road, 9:30 a.m. service.
Opportunity Christian Church, 708 N. Pines Road, will also be collecting donations after the 10:45 a.m. service Sunday. They will also serve soup and sandwiches after the service. Donations collected at the luncheon will be donated to the Valley Food Bank, as will the donations from the Souper Bowl collection.
