Koppen sparks rout of Snow

Lindsey Koppen hit five 3-pointers and led all scorers with 19 points as all five North Idaho starters scored at least nine points in a 76-41 rout of Snow in a Scenic West women’s basketball matchup Saturday at Coeur d’Alene.

Koppen also grabbed a team-high five rebounds and Caitlin Courchaine went 6 of 8 from the field to rack up 15 points and five assists, Paige McGowan had 11 points and Sara Dennehy and Stephanie Jones each added nine for the Cardinals (17-6, 10-2).

Andrea Medler led Snow (8-14, 3-9) with 17 points.

Stephanie Hawk finished with a game-high 21 points as Gonzaga snapped a nine-game road losing streak with a 68-58 win over Saint Mary’s in Moraga, Calif.

Hawk, who hit all eight of her free throws, had 15 points in the first half, as Gonzaga, which also got 15 points and three steals from Ashley Anderson, used a 9-5 run to close out the first half with a 37-33 lead.

The Bulldogs (11-13, 6-3 West Coast Conference) then held the Gaels (10-12, 5-4) to just 33 percent shooting in the second half to secure the win and grab a firm hold of third place in the WCC standings.

Saint Mary’s was led by Jontelle Smith, who finished with 13 points.

Four Lumberjacks were in double figures as Northern Arizona knocked off Eastern Washington 74-61 in Big Sky action at Flagstaff, Ariz.

Alyssa Wahl had game-highs of 22 points and nine rebounds for the Lumberjacks (16-6, 6-1), while Sandra Vikstryte added 15 points.

Eastern (9-11, 3-4) was led by the 14 points and four assists of Leah Gonnella.

Crystal Castle finished with 13 points and a game-high 15 rebounds as Lewis & Clark held Whitworth to just 25 percent shooting from the floor in a 48-39 Northwest Conference win at Portland.

Castle added four assists and three steals for the Pioneers (11-9, 7-5).

Whitworth (13-7, 7-5) was led by Amy Ridings, who finished with 16 points.

Chelsie Morrison finished with game-highs of 23 points and 11 rebounds as Yakima Valley (21-2, 7-1) forced 29 Community Colleges of Spokane (14-9, 4-4) turnovers en route to a 71-61 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges win at Spokane Community College.
