Collecting: Fiesta Ware

Larry Cox King Features Syndicate

Q: I recently inherited a large collection of original Fiesta Ware. I have been told that my old Fiesta pieces are not worth as much as they once were because of the recent re-issues. Is this true? — D.W., Waldorf, Md.

A: Your source is wrong. Original issues are always worth more than later reproductions or copies.

To get an idea of what your collection is worth, you need to invest in a good reference book. I especially like Warman’s Fiesta Ware: Identification & Price Guide by Mark F. Moran (KP Books, $24.99), which features more than 500 photos of both vintage and post-1986 pieces with prices that I think accurately reflect the market. If you can’t find this excellent reference in your neighborhood bookstore, you can order it from the publisher by calling 1-888-457-2873.
