Gonzaga beats up on Aggies
Gonzaga scored seven runs in the second inning and seven more in the seventh as the No. 29 Bulldogs routed New Mexico State 14-4 in non-conference collegiate baseball action Saturday in Las Cruces, N.M.
After being ranked for the first time since 1981, GU (7-2) lost 5-3 Friday to NMSU (4-5) and trailed the Aggies 1-0 after one inning before erupting for seven two-out runs in the second, knocking NMSU starter Frankie Duran (0-1) from the game.
Aaron McGuinness and Jackson Brennan each hit home runs in the inning.
Gonzaga tacked on seven more in the seventh, as Bobby Carlson, who finished the day 4 for 5 with 5 RBIs, hit a grand slam.
Clayton Mortensen worked six strong innings to improve to 2-1 for the Bulldogs.

Track and field
Eastern Washington seniors David Paul and Alex Moon each broke school records at the McDonald’s Open at Moscow.
Paul threw 65 feet, 51/2 inches to win the weight throw, while Moon set the school record in the 400 meters, taking first in 47.94 seconds.

Nat Kaczor, a co-offensive coordinator and tight ends coach with Idaho the past two seasons, has moved to Louisiana-Monroe to become the team’s new tight ends coach.
Men’s tennis
Eastern Washington defeated Idaho 6-1 in Cheney, the first win for the Eagles men over the Vandals since Eastern went to Division I in 1983, a 21-match span.
