Late rally sparks Whitworth

Lance Pecht and Jon Young combined for nine unanswered points in the final 2 minutes and 26 seconds as Whitworth’s basketball team secured at least second place in the Northwest Conference with a 66-60 win Saturday over Pacific at Forest Grove, Ore.

The Pirates (19-6, 13-3) were led by Pecht’s 26 points and five assists – both game highs – and will host an NWC playoff game.

Pacific (10-15, 4-12) was led by Ryan Turcott’s 16 points.

•Jeremy Mangum had 16 points and 14 assists, and Erik Bell had 24 points and nine rebounds as five Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch reached double figures in scoring in a 96-80 Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges win over Treasure Valley in Ontario, Ore.

Humberto Perez and Joel Ryman each finished with 17 points for CCS (20-5, 9-2), with Jordan Hammond adding 12 points and seven rebounds. Treasure Valley (12-14, 4-7) was led by the 18 points of Brice Fantazia.

•Darin Nagle had a team-high 14 points as eight players scored at least nine points in North Idaho’s 96-69 victory over Colorado Northwestern in Scenic West Athletic Conference action in Rangley, Colo.

Mac Hopson had 13 points, Bayo Arigbon and Frank Clair had 12 points apiece, Zach Parks finished with 11 points, Keeland Donald had 10 points and Tommy Craddock and Scotty Stockwell had nine points apiece for the Cardinals (21-7, 11-5).

LaRon Frazier scored 26 points to lead the way for the Spartans (4-22, 0-14).
