Depleted Trojans beat UCLA

Associated Press

Nick Young had 15 points and six rebounds, reserve Dwayne Shackleford scored all 12 of his points in the second half as short-handed Southern California upset No. 15 UCLA 71-68 on Sunday night in Los Angeles.

Lodrick Stewart scored 13 points, Ryan Francis had 12 and Abdoulaye Ndiaye 10 for the Trojans, who snapped a season-high three-game losing streak.

The Trojans won without second-leading scorer Gabe Pruitt, who missed his third straight game due to an injured left knee. USC had lost its last three to UCLA, including a 66-45 setback at Pauley Pavilion last month.

Jordan Farmar had 21 points and five assists, Arron Afflalo scored 19 points, and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Bruins, who fell into a tie for first place in the Pac-10 with California.

UCLA has lost two straight after a five-game winning streak.

Arizona 76, Stanford 72

Hassan Adams broke out of a scoring slump with 23 points and Ivan Radenovic also scored 23 to help the Wildcats snap a four-game road losing streak with a victory over the Cardinal in Stanford, Calif.

Marcus Williams keyed a 16-3 run to start the second half as the Wildcats bounced back after a loss at California on Thursday to complete a season sweep against the Cardinal and earn a much-needed win.

Arizona and Stanford have dominated the Pac-10 the past decade, but this matchup was less about conference superiority and more about boosting both teams’ chances of making the NCAA tournament.
