Chiefs fall to Blazers
KAMLOOPS, British Columbia – The Spokane Chiefs’ road losing streak has reached a dozen games since a Jan. 28 win.
The Chiefs fell to the Kamloops Blazers by a 5-2 score on Tuesday night in Western Hockey League play. Spokane (49 points) remains in last place in the five-team U.S. Division of the Western Conference, one point behind idle Portland.
Kamloops converted three power-play opportunities in Tuesday’s game and jumped to a 3-0 lead – the last two on extra-man goals just 49 seconds apart in the first period.
It wasn’t until the second period that Spokane got on the board. That’s when Michael Grabner got his 14th goal in the last 14 games at the 2:52 mark.
Johannes Salmonsson had Spokane’s other goal – at the 9:15 mark of the third period with the game decided.
The Chiefs mustered just 15 shots in the game, with a season-low two in the final period.
