EWU’s Meyer headed to NFL Combine
Former Eastern Washington University quarterback Erik Meyer will participate in this week’s NFL Scouting Combine that takes place today through Feb. 28 in Indianapolis.
Meyer, who won the 2005 Payton Award given to the top NCAA Division I-AA football player, is one of 25 quarterbacks in attendance. He is the sixth EWU player to be invited to the combine in the last four years.
Meyer passed for 4,003 yards and 30 touchdowns as a senior last season and compiled 10,261 yards and 84 touchdowns in his career.
Track and field
David Paul of Eastern Washington has been named Big Sky Conference field athlete of the week.
Paul threw a career-best 56 feet, 5 1/2 inches in the weight throw to take first place at the Vandal Invitational on Feb. 17. The throw broke an EWU record and was the second-best in the Big Sky this season.
Men’s tennis
Pannhara Mam of Eastern Washington has been named Big Sky Conference men’s tennis player of the week.
It’s the first time since 2000 that an EWU men’s tennis player has been selected for the honor.
Mam beat Idaho’s Timothy Huynh 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 1 singles match Feb. 18. It was part of EWU’s 6-1 victory, the first over the Vandals since EWU became a Division I school.
