Vandals see skid hit seven games

The University of Idaho men’s basketball team couldn’t get anything going Monday night and fell 74-49 to Louisiana Tech in Ruston, L.A.

With its seventh straight loss, UI is 4-23 overall, 1-14 in the Western Athletic Conference.

“This was our fifth game in 10 days, third on the road, and in this league I don’t know who could have played this stretch and won a lot of games,” Idaho coach Leonard Perry said. “We are better than this. We aren’t the most physical and talented team, but I was hoping we had a little fire left, and that was asking too much of this team.

“Give Louisiana Tech credit, they’re a good basketball team and very physical,” Perry said. “At the end of this trip, that’s not what we needed to see.”

Idaho’s leading scorer, Tanoris Shepard, had a season-low three points and fouled out with seven minutes left in the game.

Keoni Watson led Idaho with 17 points.

“Keoni is playing really well for us and he played a good game tonight,” Perry said.

Idaho (8-18, 4-11) was led by 5-foot-5 point guard Leilani Mitchell’s 16 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, four blocks, four steals.

Teammate Emily Faurholt, the WAC’s leading scorer, was held to a career-low five points.
