Around the Pac-10

The Spokesman-Review

Count California as the big winner of the first weekend of Pac-10 play. Arizona earned the single biggest win by beating Washington, but the Golden Bears’ two road wins over USC and UCLA may have been more significant. Ben Braun’s team was fortunate to catch UCLA at its weakest thanks to a number of injuries, but that doesn’t make Cal feel any worse starting the conference season 2-0. … Arizona is on a seven-game win streak and back in the national polls after a two-week hiatus. The Wildcats defeated Washington in double overtime last Saturday, snapping the Huskies’ nation-best 32-game home winning streak. Washington is ranked 10th this week. … Stanford forward Matt Haryasz is almost certainly out tonight against Oregon State with an ankle sprain, and that leaves Stanford with as few as nine healthy bodies. Trent Johnson’s team is 2-5 in its last seven games.
