GSL basketball game of the week
University girls (6-2, 1-0) at Gonzaga Prep (7-1, 1-0)
There’s a boys game of note (North Central at West Valley, see story at right), but for the 4A ranks, this is the game of the night. The Bullpups took the non-league encounter in U-Hi’s gym, 62-53, but the Titans were playing without All-American Angie Bjorklund. She’s back, and U-Hi is 3-0 since her return, including impressive Christmas-break road wins over highly ranked Auburn Riverside and Snohomish. The Pups had their own impressive non-league win (70-28 over Bellermine Prep) before opening league with a eight-point victory at NC.
Area game of the week
Reardan boys (6-2, 5-1) at Northwest Christian (7-1, 5-1)
Everyone’s beating up on everyone in the Bi-County, and through about six games, these two teams have floated to the top of the league. NWC’s big man, Karl Richardson, leads the Crusaders in scoring at 15 points a game, but freshman guard Chase Ramey is emerging as a threat, scoring 21 against Valley Christian on Tuesday. Reardan is led by 6-foot-4 forward Travis Teaford (19.0 ppg) and a group of state championship football players that isn’t afraid to play a physical game.
