Sounds like Lindsay still has to learn when to inhale

Lindsay Lohan admits in the new issue of Vanity Fair that she has dabbled in drugs and battled bulimia. The 19-year-old actress-singer says that following the success of 2004’s “Mean Girls”, she used drugs “a little,” but quickly adds: “I’ve gotten that out of my system.”

As for last year’s drastic weight loss, Lohan acknowledges being bulimic and says that before she hosted “Saturday Night Live,” head writer Tina Fey and executive producer Lorne Michaels sat her down.

“They said, ‘You need to take care of yourself. We care about you too much, and we’ve seen too many people do this, and you’re talented,’ and I just started bawling,” Lohan recalls.

“I knew I had a problem and I couldn’t admit it.”

As if all that wasn’t enough, Lohan was hospitalized in Miami on Monday after suffering an asthma attack.

Her mother and manager, Dina, told OK! magazine that Lohan would recuperate at home before beginning work on her next movie, “Chapter 27,” about John Lennon‘s killer, Mark David Chapman.

We want Reese’s bits!

Joaquin Phoenix, whose portrayal of Johnny Cash in “Walk the Line” has made him an Oscar front-runner, returned Tuesday to the scene of one of Cash’s most famous concerts – California’s Folsom State Prison.

Dressed head to toe in Cash’s trademark black, Phoenix performed several acoustic songs with Shooter Jennings (who plays father Waylon in the film) at the prison chapel, including “Folsom Prison Blues.”

Phoenix apologized for his “rusty” performance, saying he had not played since the movie’s completion.

Noting that co-star Reese Witherspoon, who played June Carter Cash, couldn’t make it, he added: “I know you guys would probably rather see Reese.”

More than a few nicks for Drake

Drake Bell, the 19-year-old star of the Nickelodeon TV series “Drake & Josh,” is recovering from injuries suffered in a car crash.

Bell’s vintage Mustang was struck head-on Thursday in Los Angeles, a Nickelodeon spokeswoman said. He suffered a fractured jaw and severe cuts, and expects to undergo plastic surgery, she said.

Production of the series has been put on hold.

Pretty little head case

Songbird Nellie McKay has been dropped by Columbia Records after a dispute over her sophomore album, “Pretty Little Head,” turned ugly.

Columbia decided not to distribute the album, which had been set for release Tuesday. McKay had pressed for a 23-song, 65-minute version, while the label wanted a 16-song, 48-minute cut.

“It ain’t no use to sit and wonder why – they kept the coffeepot, I got the dog,” the 21-year-old McKay said in a statement. “All that matters to me is that I can continue to make irritating music which will baffle and enrage.”

Talkin’ ‘bout his de-g-g-generation

Pete Townshend is warning iPod users they may face hearing problems if they don’t turn down the volume.

Townshend, guitarist for the legendarily loud British band The Who, said his hearing has been irreversibly damaged by years of using studio headphones.

He must now take 36-hour breaks between recording sessions, he said, adding: “I have unwittingly helped to invent and refine a type of music that makes its principal components deaf.”
