Engineers Forum of Spokane – Tom Arnold, chief engineer for the city of Spokane, will speak on construction projects planned for this year in Spokane. The talk will be at noon Monday at the Holiday Inn Airport, 1616 Windsor Drive. Lunch is available for $11; 244-3467.

Swimming tryouts – The Spokane Area Swimming group will host winter swim team tryouts at 5 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 16 through Feb. 20 at the Valley YMCA, 2421 N. Discovery Place, and at 5:25 p.m. Tuesdays Jan. 17 through Feb. 21 at the Shadle Park pool, Longfellow and Ash. Spokane City Forum – The monthly luncheon features Spokesman-Review editor Steven Smith speaking on “A Question of Values: Why Healthy Communities Require a Healthy Press,” 11:45 a.m. Jan. 18 at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S.
