Eastern loses fifth straight
SACRAMENTO, Calif – DaShawn Freeman scored 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting, and Loren Heath added 22 off the bench as Sacramento State handed Eastern Washington its fifth straight loss 88-69 Saturday night in a Big Sky Conference men’s basketball game.
Alex Bausley had 15 points, 11 rebounds and six steals for the Hornets (11-5, 2-0 Big Sky), who shot 59 percent from the floor in the first half and jumped out to a 21-point halftime lead.
Freshman point guard Rodney Stuckey led the Eagles (5-10, 0-2) with 21 points on 8-of-19 shooting and four steals to follow up his school-record, 45-point performance against Northern Arizona on Thursday night.
However, Stuckey had seven turnovers, and the Eagles as a team finished with 23 turnovers that resulted in 29 Hornets points.
Paul Butorac (Medical Lake High) scored 16 points, including 8-of-12 shooting from the free-throw line, while Matt Penoncello added 11 off the bench. Derek Risper pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds, including four of the team’s 18 on the offensive end.
