Scouts reach Eagle rank

Three area residents recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award given in the Boy Scouts.

Christopher and Eugene Cavender, sons of Guy and Kathy Cavender of Spokane, are both students at Shadle Park High School.

For his project Christopher Cavender built a Riverside State Park sign along Rutter Parkway.

Eugene Cavender built a rest bench along the Centennial Trail in Riverside State Park’s equestrian area for his project. Both are members of Troop 171.

Shawn Carter, a student at Central Valley High School, is the son of Reta and Ron Gibson of Veradale. For his project Carter built six benches for the Good Samaritan Village.

“ Five area residents recently graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Airman David Harney, a 2001 graduate of Rogers High School, is the son of Rose and Dwayne Harney of Spokane.

Airman 1st Class David Jones, the son of Kathy Jones of Spokane, is a 2005 graduate of Medical Lake High School.

Airman Melody Price, a 2004 graduate of Mary Walker High School in Springdale, Wash., is the daughter of David Price of Spokane.

Airman Jennifer Schultz is the daughter of Renee Schultz of Mead.

Airman Victor Storms, a 2005 graduate of Moses Lake High School, is the son of Rhonda Storms of Moses Lake.

“ Army Sgt. 1st Class Curtis Kimbrell was recently awarded the Army Commendation Medal, which is given to those who have distinguished themselves by acts of heroism or by meritorious achievement or meritorious service. Kimbrell, 1996 graduate of Mead High School, is the son of Thomas Kimbrell Jr. and Jodel Kimbrell, both of Spokane. He is currently an assistant operations sergeant assigned to the 100th Missile Defense Brigade at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

“ Adrienne Taylor of Spokane was recently named to the President’s List at Williams Baptist College in Arkansas for the fall semester. Those on the President’s List earned a 4.0 grade-point average.

“ The following Eastern Washington residents were recently named to the President’s List at Lewis-Clark State College with a grade-point average of 3.75 and above for the fall semester. Students are listed by their home town.

Colville – Jonathan Heflick.

Pullman – Courtney Fulgenzi, Leah Hyman.

Spokane – Spencer Bishop, Tiara King.

St. John – Kristie Mills.

The following Eastern Washington residents were recently named to the Dean’s List at Lewis-Clark State College with a grade-point average of 3.25-3.74 for the fall 2005 semester. Students are listed by their home town.

Albion – Brady Shelton.

Cheney – Katherine Fuqua.

Greenacres – Jacob Becker, Jamie Johnstone.

Lacrosse – Jackie Ryan.

Mead – Zachery Servatius.

Nine Mile Falls – Jared Tikker.

Pullman – Karla Ryan, Jason Wickard.

Spokane – Carla Jones.

Spokane Valley – Tiffany Spencer.

Valley – Sol Kryder.

Idaho residents on the college’s president’s list and dean’s list will be included in a future Achievements column.

“ Seventh-grader Jennifer Kiesewetter won the recent National Geographic Bee at Holy Family Catholic School in Coeur d’Alene. The competition was the first round in the 18th annual contest. School winners around the country will now take a written test. Up to 100 of the top scorers in each state will advance to the next round of competition.

“ Daniel Schock, a member of Boy Scout Troop 104, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He is the son of Diane and Alan Schock of Sagle, Idaho. The Sandpoint High School senior built goose nesting boxes in the Westmond Wildlife Management Area for his project. .
