Photographing wildlife – The Spokane Audubon Society hosts Roger Hartman speaking on wildlife photography techniques, 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Riverview Retirement Community, 1801 E. Upriver Drive.

Swimming tryouts – The Spokane Area Swimming group team tryouts will be at 5 p.m. every Monday through Feb. 20 beginning Monday at the Valley YMCA, 2421 N. Discovery Place, and at 5:25 p.m. every Tuesday through Feb. 21 beginning next Tuesday at the Shadle Park Pool at Longfellow and Ash. Slots are available for youth ages 6-16 who can swim 25 yards freestyle and backstroke; 326-7546.

Spokane City Forum – The monthly luncheon features Spokesman-Review editor Steven Smith speaking on “A Question of Values: Why Healthy Communities Require a Healthy Press,” 11:45 a.m. Jan. 18 at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S.
