Bowman leads LC girls to win
Heather Bowman just missed a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Lewis and Clark to a 60-35 win over River Ridge from Lacey, Wash., Monday in the girls division of the Tourney Town tournament in Yakima.
LC (11-0) broke to a 35-17 halftime lead against the state’s No. 2-ranked 3A school. Katelyn Redmon added 10 points and four rebounds for LC.
No River Ridge player reached double figures.
•A fourth-quarter rally came up short for Coeur d’Alene and the Vikings lost 41-38 to West Valley-Yakima in the Tourney Town tournament. Lindsay Stark had a chance to put the Vikings ahead late in the game that was tied six times and had six lead changes, but her 3-pointer bounced off the rim. WV-Yakima came down and hit the deciding 3-pointer.
Boys basketball
Two major scoring runs and some deadly free throw shooting propelled South Kitsap to an 81-62 win over Mead in the boys division of the 16-team Tourney Town tournament. South Kitsap (11-1) opened the game on a 15-0 run, only to see Mead claw back to within 37-29 at the half. The Panthers (4-7) were within 41-35 midway in the third quarter when South Kitsap went on a 9-0 run. The winners hit 21 of 28 free throws in the second half, 27 of 38 for the game. Mead, which was 9 of 14 from the line, was led by Brendan Ingebritsen‘s 15 points. L.P. Neloms and Ryan Sweat scored 15 each for South Kitsap.
Wrestling
Four Greater Spokane League athletes, two from Central Valley, won titles at the Jug Beck Rocky Mountain Classic Saturday in Missoula. Bears Lucas Chesher, 140 pounds, and Camren Ebat, 160; Ferris’ Taylor Yonago, 130; and University’s Chase Fish, 125, were champions. Fish won by pin. Other finalists were CV’s Nick Cambron, 105, and Jeff Croskrey, 135, and U-Hi’s Mike Malsam, 119. University finished fourth with 170 points and Central Valley was sixth with 149. A total of 18 GSL wrestlers claimed top-six finishes at the meet.
