Gimmeson shows good timing in Warriors’ win
Christine Gimmeson scored her only point of the game with 6 seconds left Tuesday to win it for Kootenai 40-39 in a non-league girls basketball victory over host Timberlake at Spirit Lake.
Cassie Scheffelmaier scored 19 points for the Warriors (12-4), who outscored Timberlake 13-4 in the fourth quarter. Lynsie Powers scored 19 points for the Tigers (4-13).
Elsewhere, the Coeur d’Alene freshmen defeated host Lakeside (Plummer) 56-36 behind Jessica Dotts, who led three Vikings in double-digit scoring. Wynonna Johnson scored 11 points for the Knights (8-9, 3-4).
Boys basketball
Jacob Conboy had 14 points, six rebounds and five steals to lead four players in double figures as Kellogg defeated visiting Timberlake 71-42 in an Intermountain League game. The Wildcats (9-3, 2-0) jumped to a 19-5 first-quarter lead. Joey Sauer scored 14 points and Joshua McDonald and Jeremiah Big Spring 11 points each for Kellogg. The Tigers are 2-12, 0-3.
•Moscow (9-4, 3-1) outscored visiting Coeur d’Alene 38-20 in the first and fourth quarters en route to a 69-51 Inland Empire League victory. The Vikings are 6-7, 1-3.
Wrestling
Sandpoint captured the first six matches, including five forfeits, to record a 52-30 win over host Lake City in an Inland Empire League dual. The Bulldogs secured three pins in the match, including Alec Ward (119 pounds) and Jerod Morris (171), who each recorded their takedowns in the closing seconds of the second round. The Timberwolves got four pins between 145 and 275.
•Timberlake defeated host Bonners Ferry by technical fall criteria in an Intermountain League match that ended 33-33. The Tigers (2-0) notched three pins in the match, and Patrick Neal defeated Dayne Swisher 10-8 in double-overtime at 130 pounds.
