After last weekend’s games, the home team is just 15-12 in conference games. … Cal’s Rod Benson injured a foot in practice and won’t play this week, with long-term playing prospects also questionable. The Cougars travel to the Bay Area next week, and Benson was a major force in the Bears’ two wins against WSU last season. … Lorenzo Romar is in a much better mood this week after his Huskies swept UCLA and USC on the road. If UCLA continues to sustain injuries, Washington might emerge as the favorite to win the conference title. … Arizona coach Lute Olson Wednesday dismissed shooting guard Chris Rodgers, who started 13 of 16 games. Olson said earlier in the week that he’s desperate to find more of an inside presence. Kirk Walters has talent but has been spotty. Ivan Radenovic, another possible successor to Channing Frye, hasn’t shown a willingness to play inside either.
