Calling all Muggles

If you’ve missed the hubbub surrounding Harry Potter (or just want to watch the first movie in the series for the 10th time), the Spokane Valley Library will host a showing of “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” today at 3 p.m. The library hosts occasional showings of movies based on books with its For the Love of Movies series.

There is no charge. The library is at 12004 E. Main Ave. Call 926-6283 for more information.

Keep on rollin’

Roller Valley is inviting the community to celebrate its 30th anniversary of offering roller skating to generations of Valley children this weekend. Many a current and former resident have fond memories of circling the wooden floor while bobbing to popular music and preening for members of the opposite sex.

The business will serve free cake and punch from 2 to 4:30 p.m. today and Sunday at the rink, 9415 E. Fourth Ave.

Let’s dance the night away

Twice a month the Country Jammers break out their instruments for an all ages dance at the Tri-Community Grange in Newman Lake. The next one is from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the grange, located one block north of Trent Avenue on Starr Road.

Those who fancy themselves musicians or singers can take advantage of the open mike session from 2 to 3 p.m. Admission is by donation and there will be refreshments. Call 926-3803 for more information.

The music of angels

Local harpist Leslie Stratton Norris is a staple at local churches and now she will be performing at Millwood Presbyterian Church. Her concert begins at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road. The public is welcome and admission is free.
