Shadle Park gets past game West Valley

In a night of one-sided Greater Spokane League girls basketball games, only one stood out.

Shadle Park (8-5, 3-3) escaped with a 43-37 win over improving West Valley (2-11, 1-5).

The visitors fell behind by eight points in the first quarter but played the host Highlanders better than even the rest of the way, thanks to the efforts of Leah Hannenberg and Krystal McCarthy, who combined for 23 points.

But Shadle post Lexie Petterson had 16 points and seven rebounds and Lexi Bishop had five steals to hang on.

No other game was as close as 17 points.

Central Valley 71, East Valley 33

The Bears (8-5, 4-2) scored the game’s first 15 points and cruised past the visiting Knights (5-8, 1-5). Rachel Heinen hit three 3-pointers and Heidi Heintz and Salena Leavit combined for 37 points.

Mead 68, Clarkston 25

The host Panthers (9-4, 4-2) had 18 steals and Kelli Valentine had nine assists in the blitz of the Bantams (7-6, 3-3). Nikki Nelson (18 points) and Alysha Green (11) led the scoring.

LC 87, Mt. Spokane 29

The Tigers (13-0, 6-0) opened with a 27-9 first quarter and shot 61 percent from the field for the game. Four players, including Brittany Kennedy, with 17 points, finished in double figures against the Wildcats (7-6, 4-2).

Ferris 54, North Central 37

A hot-shooting first half carried the visiting Saxons (6-7, 3-3) past the Indians (3-10, 1-5). Two players apiece on each team scored 11 points.

Gonzaga Prep 73, Rogers 48

The Bullpups (11-2, 5-1) led 40-16 at the half at Rogers (2-11, 0-6). The Pirates’ D’Erica Jones had a season-high 22 points.

University 53, Cheney 30

The Titans (11-2, 6-0) remained on LC’s heels with the home win over the Blackhawks (5-8, 1-5). Cheney had 26 turnovers to U-Hi’s 12.
