Augustine, Jackson lead Spartans to victory over Vandals

Lamisha Augustine poured in a game-high 23 points and Amber Jackson finished with a double-double – 17 points, 11 rebounds – to lead the San Jose State Spartans to a 61-52 victory over the Idaho Vandals in Western Athletic Conference women’s basketball play on Saturday in San Jose, Calif.

Leilani Mitchell paced the Vandals (7-10, 3-3) with 13 points, while Emily Faurholt chipped in with 10 points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

Idaho connected on just 34.5 percent (19 of 55) of its shots from the floor for the game.

San Jose State (9-6, 4-0) shot 40.7 percent from the floor, including 44.4 percent from behind the 3-point line. The Spartans also had a 40-33 advantage on the boards.

•Mandy Close’s driving layup with 2 seconds left in overtime gave the Oregon State Beavers (8-8, 2-6) a 68-67 win over the Washington State Cougars (6-12, 0-9) in Pacific-10 Conference action in Corvallis, Ore.

Kim Butler led the Beavers with 27 points and Close scored 17 of her 21 points after halftime.

Crystal Blue, Amanda DuRocher and Keisha Moore had 14 points apiece for the Cougars, who have dropped 11 straight.

Washington State’s Dani Montgomery hit a 3-pointer late in regulation to send the game to overtime.

•Kaela Chapdelaine scored a career-high 18 points to lift the Oregon Ducks (12-6, 3-5) to an 81-73 win over the Washington Huskies (13-5, 6-3) in Eugene, Ore.

Cameo Hicks led Washington with 16 points. Andrea Plouffe and Jill Bell each had 13 points and Cheri Craddock added 11 for the Huskies.

•Ashley Anderson nailed a game-high 14 points and Stephanie Hawk just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds as the Gonzaga Bulldogs (9-12, 4-2) rolled to a 54-42 victory over the visiting San Francisco Dons (6-12, 2-3) in West Coast Conference action.

It was a tale of two halves for the Bulldogs, who trailed by six at the break before outscoring the Dons 34-16 in the second half. Gonzaga made just 26 percent (6 of 23) of its shots from the floor in the first 20 minutes, but rallied to hit 50 percent (11 of 22) after the break.

San Francisco, which was led by the 10 points of reserve Danae Wellander, shot just 20.6 percent (7 of 34) in the second half, after hitting 42.3 percent (11 of 26) in the first.

•Sara Tuomi totaled a game-high 20 points and Chelsey Warburton and Laura Porter each scored 17 to lead the Weber State Wildcats (9-8, 3-1) to a 65-55 win over the Eastern Washington Eagles (7-9, 1-2) in Big Sky Conference play in Ogden, Utah.

Joanna Chadd and Phynique Allen topped the Eagles with nine points apiece. Sydney Benson paced EWU with six rebounds.

EWU was up 26-24 at the half before being outscored 41-29.

•Emily Hendrickson tossed in a career-high 23 points to propel the Whitworth Pirates (10-6, 4-4) to a 70-60 win over the visiting Pacific Boxers (5-11, 1-7) in Northwest Conference play.

Hendrickson helped the Pirates overcome a season-high 27 turnovers.

Holly Ridings scored 11 of her 16 points in the first half and finished with eight rebounds for Whitworth.

Pacific’s DeeDee Arnall led all scorers with 26.

•Sara Dennehy had game highs of 15 points and three steals to lead the North Idaho Cardinals (14-5, 7-1) to a 71-57 victory over the Salt Lake Bruins (12-7, 3-5) in Scenic West Athletic Conference action in Salt Lake City.

Caitlin Courchaine added 14 points for NIC, while Stephanie Jones chipped in with 11 points and four assists. Ash Gilmore topped the Cardinals with nine rebounds.

Atta Diabate had a double-double (13 points, 11 rebounds) for the Bruins.

•Emily Wittkopf tallied 16 points to lead five players in double figures and the Community Colleges of Spokane Sasquatch (12-7, 2-2) cruised to a 71-53 victory over the visiting Blue Mountain Timberwolves (5-13, 0-4) in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges play.

Dee Dee Jackson totaled 12 points, Birttany O’Neal and Sarah Scates each had 11 points and Lindsay Petersen scored 10 for the Sasquatch, who were outrebounded 50-27 for the game.

Blue Mountain’s Lois Eubanks led all scorers with 17. Teammate Rosalind Lee snared a game-high 16 rebounds.
