The Spokesman-Review

The General Store/Wrangler PBR Classic comes to Spokane Friday and Saturday, with shows beginning at 8 p.m. in the Spokane Arena.

This weekend’s event features a number of riders from the Pacific Northwest, including six riders from the state of Washington on Friday and a half-dozen more competing on Saturday.

Walla Walla’s Charlie Barker, Goldendale’s J.C. Beanland, and Ephrata’s Zach Bright lead the Friday night field. Auburn’s Myron Duarte, Tonasket’s Zach Oakes and Grand Coulee’s Shane Proctor compete Saturday.

Women’s basketball

Washington State can’t catch a break.

Redshirt sophomore guard Nikki Stratton has decided to end her career because of an injured right foot.

Her decision comes just a week after the Cougars got back junior wing Adriane Ferguson. The former Mead star was injured in WSU’s fourth game and missed 12 games because of a shattered right pinkie finger.

The Cougars are without senior guard Charmaine Jones, their leading scorer, for the second time. Jones is expected to miss several more weeks.

The Cougars (6-12, 0-9 in the Pac-10) have lost 11 straight going into today’s 7 p.m. home game against No. 19 Arizona State.

“Jennifer Griffin scored 26 points as Columbia Basin defeated Community Colleges of Spokane 62-52 in Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges play at Pasco.

Sarah Scates scored 12 for CCS (12-8, 2-3). Sara Dalgliesh grabbed 14 rebounds for the Hawks (12-7, 3-2).

Men’s basketball

Humberto Perez scored 22 points and Jeremy Mangum added 19, but it wasn’t enough as Columbia Basin defeated CC Spokane 75-67 in an NWAACC game at Pasco.

Perez also had 11 rebounds for the Sasquatch (15-4, 4-1). Christiaan Hammond led the Hawks (7-11, 3-2) with 19 points.
