Kootenai Secret Witness offers rewards

Compiled from staff reports The Spokesman-Review

Kootenai County’s Secret Witness, a new citizens group that aims to generate clues about unsolved incidents, is asking people for help in solving two criminal cases.

First, the group is looking for Jennifer Lynn Fuson, who is wanted for grand theft and forgery.

Fuson is also known as Jennifer Ann Fisk and Jennifer Ann Akizawa. She may be living in Spokane. She is 34, has hazel eyes and brown hair, weighs 118 pounds and is 5 feet 4 inches tall.

Second, some Coeur d’Alene police officers were shot at Jan. 15 while on a traffic stop. They and the driver dove for cover. They estimate about six shots whizzed by them, but they were unable to figure out where the shots came from.

The person responsible is wanted on a charge of aggravated assault. The incident happened at 2:03 a.m., at U.S. Highway 95 and Interstate 90.

Secret Witness is offering a cash reward for information that leads to the arrest of Fuson or the shooter. The phone number is (208) 667-2111.

Kids asked to enter Arbor Day Button Art contest

The local Arbor Day Committee wants area middle school and high school students to enter the annual Arbor Day Button Art contest.

The winner’s art will be made into 2,000 buttons that the committee will give to fourth-graders and others who participate in Arbor Day celebrations in April.

Artists must submit their designs by March 3.

The committee will select between six and 10 finalists. A panel of fourth-grade students will chose the winner.

The winning artist will receive $50, a T-shirt featuring the winning art and a supply of Arbor Day buttons to give to friends and family members.

Arbor Day is a tree-planting holiday. Idaho’s Arbor Day is April 28. The local Arbor Day Committee has members from federal, state and city governments as well as several local service organizations.

For more information, call Karen Haskew at the Coeur d’Alene Parks Department at (208) 769-2266.

CdA Library offers Wi-Fi access to patrons

The Coeur d’Alene Public Library now offers Wi-Fi (Wireless Fidelity) access for patrons with properly equipped laptops, personal digital devices and other portables.

This will help reduce the demand for the library’s nine public computers and free up access for users who don’t have their own Wi-Fi-ready equipment. Patrons often have had to wait to use the computers.

Wi-Fi users will have no waiting and no time limits. All users are expected to use the library’s wireless access in accordance with the library’s Internet policy.

Wi-Fi hotspots are so named because a Wi-Fi-enabled computer can send or receive data within the range of a wireless base station.

Olscamp named interim vice president of NIC

North Idaho College named an interim vice president Wednesday.

Paul Olscamp, former president of Western Washington University and Bowling Green State University, temporarily will replace Jerry Gee in supervising instruction. He starts work today.

Gee announced earlier this month that he would leave NIC to work as a consultant with MGT of America, a national management research and consulting firm.

The college is searching for a permanent replacement for Gee, as well as for the vice president of student services, Bruce Gifford, who will retire this summer.

Olscamp, who lives in Coeur d’Alene with his wife, Ruth Pratt, said he is not a candidate to replace Gee permanently.
