Hockey

The fifth annual Spirit of America Women’s Hockey Tournament, hosted by Spokane Women’s Hockey, wrapped last weekend with 14 teams from Washington, Idaho, Montana and British Columbia participating.

The Spokane Comets won the advanced division, Wenatchee Ladyhawks the intermediate division and the McCall Ospreys the novice division. Other local teams included Spokane Play It Again Sports (second) and Spokane River Rats (third) in novice and Spokane Harley’s Angels (second) in intermediate.

Soccer

Erin Otagaki has joined the Washington State University soccer staff as an assistant coach, replacing interim assistant Kiki Lara. Otagaki, a former Washington player and coach, returns to the Pacific Northwest after a two-year stint at Purdue where she served as an assistant.

Prior to her tenure at Purdue, Otagaki, from Honolulu, spent six years at Washington as a player and volunteer coach. In her four seasons as a Husky player, Otagaki competed in three NCAA tournaments and was a member of the 2000 Pacific-10 championship team.

After graduation, Otagaki spent two seasons in Seattle as a volunteer assistant coach, assisting in practices and recruiting efforts while pursuing a master’s degree in secondary education which she complete in March 2004.

Volleyball

Mead High School volleyball player Cassie Dobson will play at Lewis-Clark State College next fall. Dobson is a 5-foot-9 outside hitter.
