A.B. Thomason Homestead

The Spokesman-Review

Where: Near Wauconda, Wash.

History: At least five generations have shared the rural farmhouse, homesteaded in 1898 by Frank Thomason.

Primary use: Year-round family retreat.

Memories: “In the early days we would get up in the wee hours to do chores around the farm,” says Don Thomason, 64, of Moses Lake. “Although it was hard work, it was also great fun for a boy living there. We would often go fishing in the small, spring-fed pond in front of the house.”

Plans to keep it in family: Yes. Property was deeded over to Don Thomason and his sister Beatrice Thomason Fairburn, with the provision “that it could never be sold outside the family.” Today it is owned by Fairburn of Ellensburg.
