Boy missing after boating accident

From Staff Reports The Spokesman-Review

Search crews Saturday continued to look for a 7-year-old boy missing after a boating accident on the Pend Oreille River.

At 7:41 p.m. Friday emergency personnel were called to the river near the Riverview Bible Camp north of Cusick, Wash. According to a press release from the Pend Oreille County Sheriff’s Office, witnesses said the boy and a 17-year-old girl were riding in a tube behind a boat when another boat struck them.

The girl was taken by ambulance to a hospital and treated for a laceration on her thigh. The boy’s life jacket was pulled off during the crash, and he did not resurface, the release said.

The search for the boy was expected to continue today.
