Look in mirror, Landers
Rich Landers’ self-important ramblings are becoming a danger for anyone who takes him seriously. On bicycling safety, he tells us of going 30 mph downhill around a blind corner with an on-coming car, and almost getting hit because there was a vehicle behind him. He weakly blames the driver behind him, though there was a double yellow line (keeping this driver in his own lane). Didn’t the bicyclist risk everyone’s life by going 30 mph and out of control?
He refers to my letter about an activist explaining that ALL bicyclists, including your child, enjoy the right to ride into traffic. Although he wrongly contends she meant only adults going to work, there is no other way to interpret the law.
Wounding his stance further, he blames Americans (giving a pass to the foreign countries where he has ridden) for throwing enough junk onto the shoulder of the road to force bicyclists to ride into traffic. Why would he single out Americans?
His last quote is the saddest: “You don’t bring back a dead father, mother, or child with excuses.” Recalling how you ride your bike downhill, Mr. Landers, have you looked in the mirror lately?
