Shadduck Hayden Haven Cabin

The Spokesman-Review

Where: Hayden Lake, Idaho.

History: Marvin and Ragna Shadduck bought about a half-acre of land from their best friends Roscoe and Sadie Weeks shortly after World War II. They built their first “humble and quaint” cabin in 1947 and the second, with indoor plumbing, in 1960.

Primary use: Summer home.

Memories: “We have seen each other grow up, fall in love, stub our toes, break up, get chased by bees, swim, swim lots, skip rocks, learn to water ski, share scary stories around the campfire, get married — and we are all still friends,” says Kiantha Shadduck, 33, of Coeur ‘d Alene.

Plans to keep it in family: Yes. Four generations of Shadducks still gather at the Hayden Haven cabin for long, lazy summer days and community potlucks. This Wednesday they will be celebrating Marvin Shadduck’s 93rd birthday.
