Hilary Swank says estranged husband Chad Lowe‘s “substance-abuse problem” was partly responsible for the breakup of their marriage.

“I knew something was happening, but I didn’t know what,” the Oscar-winning actress tells Vanity Fair magazine.

“When I found out, it was such a shock because I never thought he’d keep something from me. And yet, on another level, it was a confirmation of something I was feeling that was keeping us from being completely solid.”

She says Lowe is “living a sober life” now, adding: “It’s an enormous obstacle to overcome, and he’s doing it.”

Swank, 31, and Lowe, 38, the brother of actor Rob Lowe, were married in 1997. They announced their separation in January, and divorce proceedings began in May.

She says she’s not ready to start dating again.

“I can’t imagine going out right now and trying to find someone else to be with,” Swank says. “It seems like a scary place. I’ve been with Chad since I was 18 years old.”

Rolling stoned = no Moss

British rocker Pete Doherty says his relationship with supermodel Kate Moss is “right and wrong, up and down.”

“I love her bones, I always will,” Doherty told a BBC interviewer Wednesday, but added: “She’s had enough, I think.”

Last fall, British tabloids published pictures of Moss allegedly using cocaine in a London studio where Doherty was recording.

Doherty, who has long battled a heroin habit, insists he’s kicking it through a court-ordered treatment program.

Boys on film

Model Yasmin Le Bon says her marriage to Duran Duran singer Simon Le Bon has lasted more than two decades because of similarities between the music and fashion worlds.

The dashing British quintet, with such hits as “Hungry Like the Wolf” and “Girls on Film,” was at the forefront of the music video age.

“If any band was going to understand the fashion business, it was going to be these guys,” Yasmin Le Bon says.

I beg your pardon?

R&B producer Dallas Austin was released from a jail in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, after being pardoned on drug charges.

Dubai ruler Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum pardoned Austin on Tuesday, hours after he was sentenced to four years in prison for possession of cocaine.

Austin, a Grammy winner who has created tunes for Madonna and Janet Jackson, told the court that he made an unintentional mistake.

Nitwit – not prey, outcast!

A former “Survivor” reality show winner was arrested Wednesday after allegedly shooting a puppy with an arrow.

Brian Heidik, who won “Survivor: Thailand” in 2002, claimed he thought the dog was a coyote that has been harassing his pets. But his wife, who called police, said he was planning to shoot another puppy as well.
