Among the upcoming week’s local literary events:

“New York Times best-selling author J.A. Jance will read from her new Joanna Brady mystery, “Dead Wrong,” on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main Ave.

The 12th installment in the Brady books finds the fictional Cochise County, Arizona, sheriff working to solve both the murder of an ex-con with a link to a prominent judge, and the brutal beating of an animal control officer – even as she prepares to deliver her second child and deals with her dysfunctional, visiting in-laws.

“Idaho writer Gary Gildner will be featured in a Midsummer Night’s Reading and Book Signing on Saturday at 7 p.m. at Oden Hall, 143 Sunnyside Road in Sandpoint.

Gildner has published 20 books, including novels, memoirs and poetry collections. His many awards and honors include a National Magazine Award for fiction, Pushcart Prizes in both fiction and nonfiction, and two National Endowment for the Arts fellowships.

“Seattle area author Karen Fisher will read from her novel “A Sudden Country” on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore.

Based on a journal written by one of her ancestors as an 11-year-old girl, it tells the story of a remarried widow and a Scottish trapper who meet during a westward migration along the Oregon Trail in 1847.
