Marlins 5, Pirates 0: At Miami, rookie Ricky Nolasco allowed four hits over 7 1/3 innings and struck out seven, leading Florida over Pittsburgh.

Reds 8, Brewers 7: At Cincinnati, Ryan Freel hit a pair of solo homers that sent Cincinnati to a victory over Milwaukee.

Giants 4, Padres 3: At San Francisco, Jason Schmidt won for the first time in more than six weeks as San Francisco got the win over San Diego.

Diamondbacks 4, Rockies 3: At Phoenix, Luis Gonzalez’s solo home run in the eighth inning lifted Arizona to a victory over Colorado.

Cardinals 6, Dodgers 1: At Los Angeles, Albert Pujols hit a two-run homer and Jim Edmonds homered as St. Louis beat Los Angeles.

Phillies vs. Braves, ppd.: Rain forced the postponement of the game in Philadelphia against Atlanta. The game will be replayed as part of a day-night doubleheader on Sept. 2.
