When Lee and Beverly Smick moved into a house with a view of the Grand Coulee Dam, they started with a landscape that was a blank canvas.

Over the last 16 years they’ve painted a scenic vista.

Influenced by their travels to Europe, the couple created a series of formal stylized European gardens on the acre of property. More than 75 “Munstead” variety lavender plants form a border along the river and a terraced water feature spills into a series of square pools.

“It’s all still a work in progress,” Beverly Smick says. “We have so many plans, so many things we’d like to do.

“We’re not through yet.”
