Biplane rides for sale Thursday
People have the chance to relive a piece of aviation history Thursday at the Coeur d’Alene Airport.
Nostalgic Warbird & Biplane Rides is selling flights in its 1930 New Standard D-25 biplane, an aircraft built for the Gates Flying Circus during the barnstorming era of stunt flying and parachuting.
The biplane, nicknamed Stanley, can carry four passengers in the front cockpit. Out of about 55 that were built, Stanley is one of five New Standards still flying, according to Nostalgic owner Mike Carpentiero. Cost for a ride is $150 per person for 30 minutes and $250 per person for a 60-minute flight. Videotapes of the ride are available for $40.

Mom’s visitation rights extended
A judge has decided that a mother who took her baby from a Seattle hospital to keep him from having court-ordered surgery will get to see the boy more often.
Superior Court Judge John McCarthy approved an agreement Monday that allows Riley Rogers’ mother, Tina Carlsen, of Sumner, to see him as often as she wants, as long as his father is there.
Two and a half weeks ago, McCarthy approved an agreement that let Riley go home to Bonney Lake with his father, Todd Rogers, until a trial over whether the state Department of Social and Health Services would take permanent custody of the child.
Child Protective Services took custody of the now 10-month-old boy in June after Carlsen opposed his doctors’ treatment plan for his kidney problems. On June 30, the boy had the surgery, which was intended to prepare him for kidney dialysis.
Under the agreement approved this month, Carlsen could visit the boy at least twice a week, but only with supervision from the state.

Robber flees house with $25
Spokane police are searching for a woman who entered the home of an 87-year-old woman and stole $25 early Tuesday morning.
Police said the robber, described as white, 5 feet tall and 150 pounds with a short blond ponytail, knocked on the door of a home in the 2500 block of East Queen around 6 a.m.
When the victim opened the door, the robber forced her way inside and demanded the woman’s purse, police said.
While looking for the purse, the robber pushed the woman to the floor, giving her minor injuries, police said.
After ransacking the victim’s home and finding some cash, the robber ran out the front door and jumped into the passenger side of a white midsize car, police said, and the vehicle fled west.
Police request that anyone with information about the robbery call (509) 532-9266.
