Pair named merit scholars
Rachel Phillips of Mead High School and Chris Walker of The Oaks Academy have been named as recipients of $2,500 National Merit Scholarships.
Every year more than 1 million students compete for the scholarships by taking the Pre SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Of those, only 8,200 are awarded scholarships. Recipients are chosen based on the test score, grades, a school official’s written recommendation and an essay written by the student.
