Murder mystery play

The Unity Players of the Unity Church of Truth are performing the play “Death & Deceit on the Nile,” by Peter de Pietro, today, Friday and next Saturday at 7 p.m.

They also will stage a matinee performance Sunday at 2 p.m. at the church, 2900 S. Bernard St.

The play relies on audience participation. Audience members will be given clue cards to help find the murderer on board the Nile Princess, a cruise ship on its way to visit Egyptian treasure.

Admission is $10, which includes dessert and a beverage.

Pastor honored

After more than 40 years of service to the Spokane Roman Catholic Diocese and 12 years at Our Lady of Fatima, the Rev. Jim Kuhns is transitioning from active to senior pastor status.

To celebrate all of those years with the church, the congregation of Our Lady of Fatima, 1517 E. 33rd Ave., is throwing him a going-away party Sunday at 1 p.m. in the church courtyard. Bishop William Skylstad is expected to attend.

Panel discussion

Call to Action Spokane is presenting a panel discussion, “Healing Our Broken Church: Surviving Our Crisis Head On,” Monday at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 219 E. Rockwood Blvd.

The panel will include Melissa Cilley and Marcia Gallucci of the Victim’s Rights Response Team from Lutheran Community Services in the Inland Northwest. They will discuss how sexual abuse and scandal has affected all Catholics.

The discussion will be moderated by Rebecca Nappi of The Spokesman-Review.

Prayer event

Three students from Eastern Washington University are presenting Unify – the Vision, a prayer event, today from 1 to 10 p.m. at Woodward Field on the Eastern Washington University campus in Cheney.

The students – Bridget Vogel, Katie Nelson and FaLeisha Dixon – sensed a call from God to bring together Christians in prayer.

The day will include music, guest speakers and prayer.

Pentecost services

Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 639 Elm St., Cheney is celebrating its Feast of the Pentecost worship service Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

The service will include festival music and liturgical accompaniment by the Eastern Washington University Brass Quintet.

Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, 411 S. Washington St., is offering “Old Time Music,” a Pentecost service, Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

The service will include music with fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bass and vocals.

St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 316 E. 24th Ave., is celebrating Pentecost Sunday at 8 and 9:30 a.m.

Services will include organ, trumpet, trombone and percussion music. Church members will wear traditional red, the color of Pentecost.

The church also is changing to its summer schedule this month. Sunday services will be at 8 and 9:30 a.m. and Saturday services at 5:30 p.m.

The service will include red banners and Communion.

•Six churches are gathering to celebrate Pentecost Sunday at 4 p.m. at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, 806 W. Indiana Ave.

The service will include music from the Spokane Community Choir and musical groups from Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Calvary Baptist Church, Central Lutheran Church, First Presbyterian Church, Holy Temple Church of God in Christ, and Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ.

A potluck dinner will follow the service, so everyone is asked to bring a dish for six to eight people.

Preschool reunion picnic

The preschool of Centenary United Methodist Church is holding its annual reunion today at noon at Manito Park.

All families of current and former students are invited and are asked to bring a side dish to share. The school will provide hot dogs, sausages, buns and drinks.
