Jackson leads Storm to victory

Lauren Jackson scored 27 points to lead Seattle to a 97-87 win over Diana Taurasi and Phoenix in a matchup of the WNBA’s two leading scorers Friday night in Seattle.

Jackson, second to Taurasi in scoring, was 11 for 17 from the floor with three 3-pointers and nine rebounds.

Taurasi, averaging 23.3 points per game, was held to two points on 1-for-7 shooting in the first half after picking up two fouls in the first 3 minutes of the game. She finished with 16 points on 5-for-13 shooting.

Rookie Cappie Pondexter had 30 points for Phoenix, which is looking for its first win under new coach Paul Westhead.

Jackson, who had a career-high 35 points in the previous meeting May 25, had 10 second-quarter points including two 3-pointers during a 19-7 run.

Comets 71, Sky 60: At Houston, Tina Thompson scored 23 points to lead Houston past Chicago for its fourth straight victory. Thompson scored 11 points in the third quarter as the Comets won the first meeting between the teams and improved to 2-0 on a three-game homestand.

MVP Sheryl Swoopes, who left Wednesday’s game against Indiana with back spasms, added 13 points for the Comets, who have not trailed at any point in 15 consecutive quarters.

Lynx 92, Fever 87: At Minneapolis, rookie Seimone Augustus scored a season-high 31 points, and Amber Jacobs scored a career-high 16 as Minnesota knocked off Indiana.

Augustus scored 12 in the final period and three in the final 40 seconds for the Lynx, who held off a furious Fever charge in the game’s final 2 minutes.

Silver Stars 74, Monarchs 71: At Sacramento, Calif., Vickie Johnson scored 22 points as San Antonio held off Sacramento.

The Silver Stars, who have won their three road games while losing twice at home this season, snapped a six-game losing streak against the defending champion Monarchs.

Kendra Wecker added 16 points for San Antonio, which led by as many as 21 points.
