Silver Stars rally late, defeat Storm
Sophia Young’s two free throws with 42 seconds left put San Antonio ahead for good, and the Silver Stars rallied from a 14-point deficit for an 89-87 win over the Seattle Storm on Sunday night in Seattle.
San Antonio improved to 4-0 on the road for the first time in franchise history – including victories in Houston, Sacramento and Seattle. The previous best start came in 2001, when the team was located in Utah and won its first three road contests before losing to Washington.
Young finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds, the rookie’s third double-double in six games. Kendra Wecker and LaToya Thomas each scored 15 points to lead the Silver Stars, who scored the final five points and held Seattle scoreless over the last 1:50.
Lauren Jackson scored 21 points for Seattle, which has not won consecutive games this season. Sue Bird added 18 points and Iziane Castro Marquez scored 14.
San Antonio scored just four points during a 5 1/2 -minute span of the fourth quarter, but scored seven straight to pull even at 84 with 2:06 left on Thomas’ jumper.
Jackson then converted a three-point play for Seattle with 1:50 left – the final points for the Storm.
Comets 85, Lynx 62: At Houston, Michelle Snow scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Comets over Minnesota for their fifth straight victory.
Snow, who added nine rebounds, just missed her first double-double of the season as the Comets (5-1) won their third straight at home to remain on top of the Western Conference standings.
