Monday’s results, baseball, continued
Devil Rays 4, Angels 0: At Anaheim, Calif., James Shields scattered seven hits over six innings to get his first major league win, leading Tampa Bay to a win over Los Angeles. Shields struck out six and walked two in his second career start. The Angels had at least one runner reach base in all six innings against the right-hander, and stranded 12 runners total in the shutout. Los Angeles starter Jeff Weaver gave up four runs and seven hits in 62/3 innings.
Orioles 4, Blue Jays 0: At Baltimore, Daniel Cabrera allowed three hits in five innings, Kevin Millar homered, and Baltimore blanked Toronto. Baltimore’s Corey Patterson scored two runs and extended his streak of games with a stolen base to nine, the longest run in the majors since Rickey Henderson had an identical stretch in 1986. Patterson, who leads the big leagues with 26 steals, has been caught only once.
Yankees 13, Red Sox 5: At New York, Jason Giambi and Andy Phillips each hit a three-run homer in a seven-run second inning, and New York battered old nemesis Josh Beckett to beat Boston. Melky Cabrera and Robinson Cano added two-run doubles in the third, making it an easy night for Mike Mussina in the opener of a four-game series. Derek Jeter was out with a bruised right thumb after he was hit by a pitch.
