Jackson reaches milestone in Storm’s win
Lauren Jackson led six Seattle players in double figures as the Storm defeated Chicago 86-73 Wednesday night in Seattle.
Jackson, the 2004 WNBA MVP, became the fastest player in league history to reach 3,000 points and the 11th to do so – with 3,007 points in just 162 games.
The Storm (4-3) continued their pattern of not winning or losing consecutive games while Chicago (1-6) dropped its sixth in a row.
Fifteen of Jackson’s 19 points came in the first half against the undersized Sky.
Two Seattle runs – 14-2 to start the game and 16-4 in the fourth quarter – proved to be the difference.
Seattle’s Janelle Burse had 15 points and eight rebounds, picking up the slack inside with Wendy Palmer sidelined for a month with a partial tear in her Achilles tendon and Tiffani Johnson also out with a groin pull from Tuesday’s practice.
Sparks 86, Shock 78: At Los Angeles, Mwadi Mabika scored 24 points and Lisa Leslie had 22 and 11 rebounds as Los Angeles defeated Detroit.
Fever 83, Mystics 70: At Indianapolis, Tamika Catchings returned to the lineup and scored a season-high 26 points to lead Indiana past Washington.
Sun 75, Liberty 60: At New York, Katie Douglas scored 10 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter, and Taj McWilliams-Franklin added 16 points as first-place Connecticut cruised to victory.
