Athletics 4, Indians 1: At Cleveland, Esteban Loaiza came off the disabled list and got his first win for Oakland, pitching seven superb innings to give the Athletics a victory over the Indians. Activated before the game, Loaiza took a two-hit shutout into the seventh in his first major league start since April 23.

Red Sox 9, Yankees 3: At New York, Curt Schilling became the league’s first nine-game winner, pitching Boston to a victory over the Yankees. Schilling allowed just four hits in eight innings, retiring his final 12 batters.

Orioles 7, Blue Jays 5: At Baltimore, Justin Speier walked Brian Roberts to force in the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning, and the Orioles rallied to beat Toronto. Baltimore trailed 5-4 in the eighth before scoring three runs against four Toronto relievers on two hits, a hit batter, a walk and a wild pitch.

Tigers 6, White Sox 2: At Chicago, Kenny Rogers settled down after a shaky start to retire 17 straight in seven innings, and Marcus Thames homered to cap a four-run sixth as Detroit beat the White Sox.

Royals 16, Rangers 12: At Kansas City, Mo., David DeJesus drove in four runs, Matt Stairs hit a three-run homer and the Royals made up a seven-run deficit in a victory over Texas. DeJesus finished 3 for 5 and scored three runs, and Mark Teahen went 4 for 4 for the Royals.
