Washington’s Prugh earns All-America honors

University of Washington golfers Alex Prugh, Zach Bixler and James Lepp have been honored as PING All-Americans by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Prugh, a junior from Spokane’s Ferris High, was named to the All-America third team. Prugh recorded a 72.15 scoring average on the season, fifth-best mark in school history, and was a first-team All-Pac-10 selection.

Bixler, a sophomore from Richland, and Lepp, a senior from Abbotsford, British Columbia, received honorable mention.

Football

The Spokane Shock announced that lineman Patrick Afif has been assigned to their roster by the af2 league office.

Afif, 6-foot-7, 340 pounds, had a two-year career at Washington State University, ending in 2005, and played in 17 games after two years at Orange County Community College.

The Shock placed lineman Brian Devine and defensive specialist Jerome Dennis on recallable reassignment.

Baseball

A trio of area collegiate players has been named to the 2006 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-America team, announced by the Collegiate Baseball newspaper.

WSU placed two on the team: pitcher/outfielder Jared Prince of Poulsbo, Wash., and second baseman Travis Coulter of Kennewick. Gonzaga designated hitter Ryan Wiegand, of San Diego, was also named to the team.

Boxing

Spokane’s Luke Munsen (18-5, 13 knockouts) will have a rematch with Seattle’s Tim Shocks (26-22-4, 13 KOs) in a cruiserweight headline event June 15 at the Coeur d’Alene Casino’s House of Fury venue.

Shocks knocked out Munsen in a February 2005 match in Ocean Shores, Wash.
