Cubs 6, Reds 5: Greg Maddux gained his 325th career victory and Chicago beat the Reds at Cincinnati to end the Reds’ eight-game winning streak.

Nationals 9, Phillies 8 (12): Pinch-hitter Robert Fick, the last position player available for Washington, singled home the winning run in the bottom of the 12th inning to defeat visiting Philadelphia.

Mets 10, Diamondbacks 6: Carlos Beltran and Carlos Delgado each homered twice to help New York defeat Arizona at Phoenix.

Padres 3, Marlins 2: Chris Young struck out a career-high 12 and the Padres defeated Florida at San Diego.

Pirates 3, Giants 2: Sean Casey had four hits for the second straight game and Pittsburgh ended a three-game slide by beating the Giants at San Francisco.

Astros 7, Braves 2: Mike Lamb homered for the second straight game and Houston rookie Fernando Nieve beat visiting Atlanta.

Cardinals 10, Brewers 6: Scott Spiezio drove in three runs in a six-run fourth inning and St. Louis overcame a 6-0 deficit to defeat the Brewers at Milwaukee.

Dodgers 3, Rockies 0: At Denver, Brad Penny pitched 8 1/3 innings for Los Angeles in the fifth shutout at Colorado’s Coors Field this season.
