Yankees 7, Nationals 5: At Washington, Bernie Williams hit a solo home run in the ninth to put New York ahead to stay in a victory over Washington.
Red Sox 4, Braves 1: At Atlanta, Jon Lester earned his first major league win with six good innings, and Jason Varitek hit a three-run double to lead Boston to a victory over Atlanta.
Orioles 6, Mets 3: At New York, Erik Bedard won his first game in a month and Melvin Mora hit a two-run home run against his former team as Baltimore came from behind to defeat New York.
Devil Rays 10, Phillies 4: At Philadelphia, Julio Lugo homered twice and Damon Hollins had his first four-hit game and drove in three runs to lead Tampa Bay over Philadelphia.
Twins 4, Pirates 2: At Pittsburgh, Francisco Liriano shook off an early two-run deficit to strike out a career-best 11 and Minnesota rallied for three runs in the seventh to beat Pittsburgh.
Brewers 6, Indians 4: At Milwaukee, Chris Capuano struck out a career-high 12 and Corey Koskie and Carlos Lee homered to help Milwaukee beat Cleveland. Capuano allowed six hits in seven strong innings.
Rangers 5, Diamondbacks 3: At Arlington, Texas, Kevin Millwood pitched into the eighth inning to win his fifth straight decision, helped by groundballs on offense and defense in Texas’ victory over Arizona.
Tigers 5, Cubs 3: At Chicago, Nate Robertson pitched seven effective innings and Curtis Granderson doubled, tripled and scored twice to lead Detroit to a victory over Chicago.
